Disclosure Statement From Dr. Stephanie Valentine

As a professor at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, I had the opportunity to build and use an early version of TeachFront in my own classes. That’s where I first saw how much it could help with mastery grading and, more importantly, with student learning. It was incredibly rewarding to build a tool that reduced many of my grading pain points so I could focus more on teaching and supporting students.

As TeachFront grew from a classroom tool into TeachFront Inc., my goal has remained the same: to help professors and students across the country experience the benefits of mastery grading. Because I am both a faculty member at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and the CEO of TeachFront Inc., I have a significant financial interest in the company. In accordance with the University’s Conflict of Interest policy, I have disclosed this relationship, and the University’s Conflict of Interest Committee has reviewed it and required that it be shared here.

We have taken steps to ensure that this relationship is transparent and compliant with University policies. At TeachFront, our aim is to build a sustainable company that supports professors and improves student learning, while maintaining the highest standards of integrity and openness about my role

– Dr. Stephanie Valentine, CEO and Founder of TeachFront Inc.

FAQ

Still have a question? We would love to meet with you.

How is TeachFront priced now, and what’s the plan for the future?

Right now, TeachFront is free to use during our beta through December 2025. We want as many instructors as possible to explore, experiment, and help shape what comes next. After beta, we’ll roll into simple, flexible pricing plans that keep TeachFront accessible while supporting long-term growth.

Lite Pass – Free option with core features so you can get started right away.

Course Pass – Full access to all of TeachFront's features is $19.99 per student per course. Course seats may be purchased by the institution/department or by the student.
‍
Campus Pass – For institution-wide or multi-department use, we offer site licenses. Schools can contact us directly to talk through what’s best.

All paid tiers unlock the same full set of features — no hidden limits, just different ways to cover access depending on what works best for your course or institution.

How is TeachFront different from traditional learning management systems, like Canvas or Moodle?

TeachFront is a fully featured LMS, but it was built from the ground up with mastery grading in mind. That means it can replace a traditional LMS if you want it to — hosting assignments, tracking grades, managing resubmissions, supporting groups, and more.

At the same time, TeachFront doesn’t have to replace your existing system. Many instructors prefer to use it alongside tools like Canvas or Moodle. With our integrations, TeachFront can handle the mastery-grading workflows — resubmissions, reassessments, progress visualization — while the LMS continues to manage things like course content and quizzes.

In short: TeachFront is both a standalone LMS and a companion platform. You can lean on it as much or as little as you’d like, depending on your teaching style and your institution’s setup.

How does TeachFront work with Canvas?

TeachFront is a fully featured LMS, so you can run your entire course here if you’d like. But many instructors also choose to keep using Canvas, and that’s where our LTI integration comes in.

Once your campus IT approves it, TeachFront shows up right inside your Canvas course menu. You can link your Canvas courses to TeachFront, and your assignments will sync over automatically. TeachFront then creates a single “grade calculation” item in Canvas, so students can see their overall progress in the familiar Canvas gradebook.

- Sync direction: Grades flow from TeachFront → Canvas.
‍
- Student Pass users: Students log in with their Canvas accounts, which automatically link to TeachFront.
‍
- What’s not included (yet): Canvas quizzes can’t be pulled into TeachFront right now, but you can export quiz results from Canvas and upload them if you’d like.

So whether you want TeachFront to be your primary LMS or your mastery-grading sidekick, it’s designed to flex around what works best for you.

How do students join a TeachFront course?

With Canvas integration, students are added automatically — no extra steps needed.

Without Canvas, instructors can share a course code, and students can join TeachFront directly. It’s quick and easy either way.

How does resubmission work for students?

Resubmissions are built right into TeachFront. Students can choose which objectives they want to improve, explain what they changed, and upload revised work. Instructors see the new submission alongside the original, making it simple to give targeted feedback. The goal is to encourage growth — not punish mistakes — so students get clear chances to demonstrate progress without adding a mountain of extra grading work.

Can TeachFront handle group work?

Yes! Group work is supported whether you’re using a Course Pass or Campus Pass. Instructors can set assignments as group-based, assess all group members together, or provide feedback to individuals within the group when needed. Reassessment is supported for groups too, so teamwork and accountability stay balanced.
